From Chapter 13 — The Field and the Knower

Original text

क्षेत्रज्ञं चापि मां विद्धि सर्वक्षेत्रेषु भारत। क्षेत्रक्षेत्रज्ञयोर्ज्ञानं यत्तज्ज्ञानं मतं मम॥

Translation

“Know me also as the knower of the field, in every field. Understanding of the field and its knower — that, in my view, is knowledge.”

Source — Bhagavad Gītā 13.2 (traditional Sanskrit text). English rendering by Frenly Divine — a working translation, not an authoritative one.

Understand

What it is saying

Explanation — written by Frenly Divine, not scripture

The chapter's image: the body and everything experienced through it is a "field"; what is aware of the field is called its knower.

Why it matters

It is the Gītā's sharpest statement of the question the Self section asks: what is it that is aware?

Reflect

If everything you can observe is the field, who is observing?
